Chinese New Year Calligraphy Exhibition cum Charity Sale to Raise Funds for Needy Students in Independent Schools

Kuala Lumpur, 21 January 2011 - We are pleased to inform that the Lion-Parkson Foundation is assisting the independent schools in Kuala Lumpur namely Kuen Cheng High School, Confucian Private Secondary School, Chong Hwa Independent High School and Tsun Jin High School to organize a Chinese New Year Calligraphy Exhibition cum Charity Sale to raise funds for needy students in these schools, for the second year.

As part of the roadshow to promote the Calligraphy Charity Sale, nine Parkson outlets in Klang Valley had staged a calligraphy sale with Chinese orchestra performances by the students from the four schools, in their stores over 2 weekends, and raised a total of RM45,991.

The main exhibition cum charity sale featuring calligraphy pieces by renowned calligrapher, Mr Kerk Won Hoo, Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng and fellow students who are taking lessons under Mr Kerk, as well as pieces by the students from the four schools is being held at Confucian Private Secondary School in Lorong Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur on 21 and 22 January 2011 from 9am to 5pm.

At the exhibition opening ceremony in Confucian school today, Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng said that the proceeds from the charity sale will all go towards helping the needy students in the 4 schools which will ease their parents’ financial burden. Confucian School is coordinating the 4 schools’ participation in the exhibition cum charity sale, and in the speech by Mr Sim Teck Hwa, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Confucian School, he thanked the Foundation for its efforts and the public for their kind support and contributions. A Chinese orchestra and 24 drums troupe comprising students from Confucian School performed at the opening ceremony.

Members of the public are invited to visit the exhibition at Confucian School and purchase the calligraphy pieces on display, for a good cause.

The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 by The Lion Group to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. It is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng (Chairman), Mr CS Tang, Dr Yulduz Emiloglu, Madam Gooi Sui Guet and Dr Chua Siew Kiat. All donations to the Foundation are tax-exempt.
