KUALA LUMPUR, 27 June 2008 - The Lion Group once again fulfilled its role as a caring corporate citizen when its Lion-ASM Foundation awarded financial assistance totalling RM259,000 to 10 students based on their financial background, academic performance, extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities.
Of the 10 students pursuing their education in local universities, three received scholarships while another seven received interest-free educational loans, each valued at RM7,000 per year.
This is the 19th year running that the Foundation is presenting awards to deserving students. YBhg Jen (B) Tan Sri Dato' Zain Mahmud Hashim, Lion Group Director presented the awards on behalf of the Foundation.
"We hope that our contribution will help students be free of financial constraints and be able to focus on the pursuit of excellence; not only in terms of academic achievement but also in terms of leadership qualities and other personable qualities with single-minded commitment," said Jen (B) Tan Sri Dato' Zain.
The Lion-ASM Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. Todate, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 350 students through various sponsorship programmes worth RM7.3 million. In addition, the Foundation has also contributed another RM7.08 million towards other causes, making a total contribution of RM14.38 million todate.
Another community project by The Lion Group is the Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund that provides financial assistance to needy Malaysians seeking medical treatment.
