The Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund contributes RM448,036.80 in aid of 67 patients

Kuala Lumpur, 3 July 2012 – The Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund (LGMAF) under the Lion Group of Companies had contributed RM448,036.80 in financial assistance to 67 patients for their treatment in Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (PPUKM) in the year 2011.  These patients suffered from various ailments such as cardiovascular disease, spinal or bone disease, cancer, cerebral palsy, lung and blood related ailments, including a few in need of knee and hip implants.  At a simple presentation ceremony held at PPUKM today, LGMAF Chairperson, YBhg Puan Sri Datin Coleen Herbert presented a mock cheque for the amount that has been disbursed to the 67 patients, to PPUKM Medical Faculty Dean & Director, YBhg Prof. Dato’ Dr. Raymond Azman Ali.  A few of the sponsored patients were also present to witness the event.

 

LGMAF was established in late 1995 with funds raised via a series of charity campaigns and donations from Lion Group’s companies and business associates in conjunction with the Group’s 65th Anniversary celebrations.  From the amount of RM10.42 million collected from the drive, RM8 million was allocated for the launching of LGMAF with the remainder of RM2.42 million donated to various charitable organisations.  Since then, the Fund has been maintained by income generated from its investment in equities and fixed deposits as well as from fund-raising by the Lion Group.

 

The Medical Assistance Fund is open to Malaysians seeking treatment in local hospitals.  Todate the Fund has disbursed a total of RM6 million being sponsorship of medical treatment to about 760 individuals and purchase of medical equipment to several charitable organisations.
