2013 Chinese New Year Calligraphy Exhibition Cum Charity Sale To Raise Funds For Needy Students In Independent Schools

Kuala Lumpur, 25 January 2013 – The Lion-Parkson Foundation is assisting 4 independent schools in Kuala Lumpur namely Chong Hwa Independent High School, Tsun Jin High School, Confucian Private Secondary School and Kuen Cheng High School to organize a Chinese New year Calligraphy Exhibition cum Charity Sale to raise funds for needy students in these schools, for the fourth and final year. More than RM600,000 has been raised from the charity sale held over the past 3 years with 235 students in the 4 schools having received financial aid from the proceeds. The Foundation hopes to raise a total of RM 1 million from this 4-year Calligraphy Charity program.

 

The launch of the 2013 Calligraphy Charity Sale was held at Pavilion KL today by Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng; wife of the High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Malaysia, Madam Irene Ong and the wife of the High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, Madam Vandana Gokhale. At the launch, Pavilion KL management donated RM8,888 towards the charity sale.

 

To promote the Calligraphy Charity Sale, nine Parkson outlets in Klang Valley namely Pavilion KL, Suria KLCC, KL Festival City Mall, The Mall, OUG Shopping Centre, Selayang Mall, Subang Parade, Sunway Pyramid and 1 Utama Shopping Centre, are staging a calligraphy sale with Chinese orchestra performances by students from the four schools, in their stores over 3 weekends i.e. 19 – 20 and 26 – 27 January 2013, and 2 – 3 February 2013. Calligraphy pieces by Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng and her classmates from Xian’s Calligraphy Center, and the students from the 4 schools are on sale at these Parkson stores.

 

The Official Opening Ceremony of the Calligraphy Exhibition and Sale will be held at Chong Hwa Independent High School in Jalan Ipoh on Saturday, 26 January 2013 at 10 am. Members of the public are invited to the Opening Ceremony and the exhibition at Chong Hwa Independent High School to purchase the calligraphy pieces on display for a good cause.

 

The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 by The Lion Group to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. It is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng (Chairman), Mr CS Tang, Dr Yulduz Emiloglu and Dr Chua Siew Kiat. All donations to the Foundation are tax-exempt.
