Kuala Lumpur, 4 July 2013 – The Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) has successfully raised RM1,008,000 from its 4-year Chinese New Year Calligraphy Exhibition cum Charity Sale to assist needy students in 4 independent schools in Kuala Lumpur. A mock-cheque for this amount was presented by Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng to the students from the four independent schools namely Kuen Cheng High School, Confucian Private Secondary School, Tsun Jin High School and Chong Hwa Independent High School.
The 4-year Calligraphy Charity Program was staged with Parkson Corporation’s support whereby 9 participating Parkson outlets in the Klang Valley namely Pavilion KL, Suria KLCC, KL Festival City Mall, The Mall, OUG Shopping Centre, Selayang Mall, Subang Parade, Sunway Pyramid and 1 Utama Shopping Centre assisted in the sale of calligraphy pieces by the students from the 4 schools as well as pieces contributed by LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng who is also the founder of Xian’s Calligraphy Center and her fellow classmates from Xian’s Center.
At the award ceremony, an Incentive Award of RM20,000 was given to the school which achieved the highest sales from their calligraphy pieces in Parkson stores in 2013 with Tsun Jin High School’s students bagging the award with sales totaling RM37,381.55. Kuen Cheng High School’s students received the Initiative Award worth RM10,000 for their additional fund raising efforts within the school.
The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 by The Lion Group to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. It is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng (Chairman), Mr CS Tang, Dr Yulduz Emiloglu, and Dr Chua Siew Kiat. All donations to the Foundation are tax-exempt.
