LION-PARKSON TSINGHUA CALLIGRAPHY COMPETITION 2016

Selangor, 10 December 2015 – Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) together with Tsinghua University from Beijing, China and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) are organizing Lion-Parkson Tsinghua Calligraphy Competition 2016 at UTAR Campus in Bandar Sungai Long, Selangor on 10 January 2016 to promote Chinese art and culture, and calligraphy in Malaysia.

 

The competition will have two categories i.e. for University/College Students (Malaysian students only), and the Public, aged 18 years and above as at 1 January 2016. There are 20 prizes to be awarded for both categories; to the Champion, 4 Distinction and 5 Merit winners in each category. The Champion in the Public category will receive RM2,000 cash, a prize and certificate, while the 4 Distinction winners will receive RM1,000 cash and a certificate each, and the 5 Merit winners will receive RM500 cash and a certificate each. For the University/College Students category, the Champion will receive a prize and certificate while the 4 Distinction and 5 Merit winners will each receive a certificate.

 

The top 5 winners from each category will be invited to attend a 4-day calligraphy workshop and awards presentation ceremony at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in April next year. LPF will pay for all the expenses namely airfare, accommodation and meals for the top 5 student winners, while the top 5 winners in the Public category will have to pay for their airfare and accommodation, with meals provided by the Foundation.

 

The press conference to launch the Competition was attended by LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng; Lion Group Director and LPF Trustee, Mr CS Tang; Vice Chairperson of University Council, Tsinghua University (Beijing), Professor Xie Weihe; Deputy Dean of School of Humanities, Tsinghua University (Beijing), Professor Liu Shi; Executive Deputy Editor of Journal of Tsinghua University, Professor Zhong Weimin; Dean of Institute of Chinese Studies, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Dr Chong Siou Wei; Deputy Dean of Institute of Chinese Studies, Dr Tee Boon Chuan; and officials from Tsinghua University and UTAR.

 

LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia invited the general public, members of the mass media and everyone to join the Calligraphy Competition to enjoy the beautiful art of calligraphy.
